The vessel left Libyan coastal city Benghazi on Saturday with 1,899 Chinese evacuees and 229 Vietnamese construction workers employed by Chinese companies, and arrived at Crete Island  at 0630 GMT Sunday after a journey of more than 15 hours.

These evacuees will make a brief stopover on the island before embarking on their journey home.

Chartered vessel "Hellenic Spirit" docked Benghazi port Friday afternoon, followed by the "Olympic Champion", its sister vessel with similar capacity. The two vessels had already delivered the first group of about 4,000 Chinese evacuees to Heraklion Thursday afternoon.
