Big data to play big role in global economy
Chinese Vice-Premier Ma Kai called for deeper big data cooperation among countries around the world on Friday, as big data will play a significant role in boosting the global economy and driving the manufacturing revolution.
"Big data is a fundamental strategic resource," Ma said at the ongoing China International Big Data Industry Expo in Guiyang, Guizhou province. "The development of big data is driving profound changes in a number of areas including social and economic fields. As a key entity of real economy, the manufacturing sector will become a main application area of big data technologies."
Ma said China plans to work with other countries on the development and application of big data, aiming to promote connectivity of data resources worldwide.
Big data technology is playing an increasingly important role in driving the world’s economic growth. It is expected that big data technology will grow global GDP by an over two percent year-on-year increase by 2020, said Bai Chunli, president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Bai said people should have a more open attitude towards the profound changes big data will bring to society, asking for more cooperation between science and industries.
"Big data technologies will involve various disciplines and industries. We should establish an international big data innovation organization, working together on setting regulations, research and development and the application of the new technologies."
