BEIJING - Chinese State Councilor Wang Yong said on Friday that the international mining industry should be more open and cooperate for win-win results.
"China welcomes foreign investment in mining, and backs its companies to invest in overseas mining industry," Wang said at the fifth meeting of ministers responsible for mining from the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) members.
Saving resources and protecting the environment is an essential principle of China, Wang said, adding the Chinese government is committed to resources conservation, clean and safe production as well as sustainable development in the mining industry.
He urges the international mining industry to pursue a stable and sustainable growth through innovation and resource conservation.
The mining industry must also fulfill its social responsibility and help improve the well being of the people, said Wang.
The meeting is one of nine ministerial meetings held in China ahead of the Leaders Summit in November.
