A pilot program to set up an electronic tracing system for baby-milk powder is being implemented in Guangdong and will cover all producers in the province this year.
The system, which the public will be able to access, will also cover baby formula distributors, said Duan Yufei, director of the provincial food and drug administration, at a quarterly news briefing on Tuesday.
Under the system, producers or distributors of baby formula made outside Guangdong for sale in the province must submit testing reports.
The provincial administration is reassessing the qualifications of the 10 baby formula makers in Guangdong, and this work will be completed in May.
It has applied to the legislative affairs office of the provincial government for a regulation to be introduced covering the supervision and management of baby formula sales in the province, Duan said.
