GUANGZHOU - The new generation of intercity high-speed trains has been put into mass production in south China's Guangdong province, sources with CSR Corporation Limited said Wednesday.
Based on CSR's CRH380A model, the CRH6 electric multiple unit is customized according to both railway and MTR requirements, the CSR said, adding that the company owns relevant intellectual property.
To date, the company has received orders worth more than 4 billion yuan ($645 million).
Booming demand for urban rail transit facilities in an increasing number of Chinese cities is expected to reignite the country's railway equipment industry.
About 118 billion yuan is expected to be spent on intercity railways in the Pearl River Delta, one of China's most developed areas, from 2012 to 2020. By 2030, the region will have a total intercity railway mileage of 2,008 kilometers, according to a plan approved by the central government.
