China's State Administration of Foreign Exchange or SAFE announced that banks on the Chinese mainland could directly buy or sell new Taiwan dollars for clients.
Banks involved in the business must first file a record to the local branch of SAFE in advance. The move aims to boost cross Strait business ties and to strengthen cooperation in finance.
