BEIJING -- Shanghai remains China's most sustainable region of development, according to the 2013 China Sustainable Development Report issued on Monday.

Issued by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), the report also cites the municipalities of Beijing and Tianjin, as well as the provinces of Jiangsu, Jilin, Zhejiang, Liaoning, Hainan, Guangdong and Fujian, as being highly sustainable.

A similar report issued last year listed Shanghai, Beijing and Tianjin, as well as Guangdong and Jiangsu provinces, as the country's most sustainable regions of development.

CAS reports on science and high-tech development, as well as its sustainable development report, have been reprinted by Science Press to highlight the government's resolution to innovate and construct an environmentally friendly society.

Wang Yi, vice head of the CAS Institute of Policy and Management, said the 2013 development report contains deep analyses of global development trends and specifies a direction for China's development.
