The second airport in Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong province, will be in the city's Nansha new district, according to the district's overall plan, which is soliciting public opinions from Jan 28 to Feb 26.
The new airport is on the land planning stage now. The plan does not show more details about the airport.
The new district is south of downtown Guangzhou.
The local government started to plan the second airport due to the fast-growing passenger volume in the city, Chen Jianhua, mayor of Guangzhou, said in July 2012.
The Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, which saw 48.31 million person-trips in 2012, only has capacity for 25 million person-trips annually.
