Keppel Land China was chosen as one of the top 10 Asean companies in China on Jan 25 due to its investments and social contributions to the country.

The award, which is based on a poll conducted among the Chinese ambassadors to Asean countries, is given by the China-Asean Business Council to recognize Asean companies for their economic and social contributions to China.

"The event aims to promote China-Asean trade and economic cooperation," said Xu Ningning, executive deputy secretary general of the council.

Asean is China's third-largest trading partner after the European Union and the United States, with bilateral trade between the two economies valued at $400 billion in 2012.

Keppel Land China, a fully owned subsidiary of Singapore-based Keppel Land, focuses on developing township, residential, waterfront, commercial and mixed-use developments in China.

The company has expanded its footprint to over 10 Chinese cities by launching more than 30 projects to build 43,000 homes with 7.7 million square meters, said Ang Wee Gee, executive vice-chairman of Keppel Land China.

The Keppel Group, with Keppel Land as its property arm, led the Singaporean consortium in the launch of the Suzhou Industrial Park project in 1994, a landmark project between the Chinese and the Singaporean governments.
