China's export tax rebate totaled 1 trillion yuan ($161 billion) in 2012, Zheng Jianxin, deputy director of the taxation department in the Ministry of Finance, told the 11th China Import and Export Enterprise Annual Conference in Beijing over the weekend.

The average tax rebate was 12.9 percent, and the rate was more than 13 percent if high-polluting and high energy-consuming products were excluded, Zheng said.

The first 11 months of 2012 saw China's export tax rebate reach 920 billion yuan, up 11.9 percent from the previous year, according to Zheng.

He added that taxation authorities will not adjust the rate of export rebates much further, despite calls from various departments, including the Ministry of Commerce, to do so.
