A call for increased domestic consumption of locally produced Arabica coffee beans has come from the head of the Puer coffee association in Southwest China’s Yunnan province.
"More than 80 percent of Puer coffee beans are for export. We hope more and more Chinese coffee lovers will enjoy the premium taste," said Lu Han, director of the Puer Coffee Industry Federation.
Peng Yuanguo, vice-mayor of Puer, said, "Coffee has become one of the pillar industries of Puer city."
The city produced 36,500 tons of coffee beans in 2012, and 43,300 hectares were planted for coffee last year. Puer produces most of China's coffee beans.
