The first batch of mining quotas for rare earth producers in 2013 has been issued by the Ministry of Land and Resources.

The mining quotas for rare earth oxides total 46,900 metric tons, with 8,950 tons for heavy rare earths and 37,950 tons for light rare earths.

This batch of quotas is half the amount in 2012. The whole year's quota for mining will depend on policy and the market, and will be released later this year.

Rare earth mining quotas are set to prevent illegal activities but the amount mined often exceeds the quotas.
