BEIJING - The government realized its target for eliminating outdated industrial production capacity last year, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said Tuesday.
Among the total, 31.92 million tons of obsolete iron-smelting capacity, 28.46 million tons of steel-smelting and 154.97 million tons of cement production capacity were phased out last year, the ministry said in a statement on its website.
China has been stepping up efforts to build an environmentally friendly and energy-efficient society by unveiling stricter emission standards and speeding up the elimination of outdated production capacity in multiple industrial sectors.
