BEIJING -- The State Electricity Regulatory Commission, or SERC, issued a statement on Monday concerning the condition of China's power-generating industry. Here are some related facts and figures:
- China has 6,790 power companies connected to the grid above the municipal level. The companies' gross installed power-generating capacity currently stands at 1.02 billion kilowatts, accounting for 95 percent of the country's total capacity.
- Among the companies, 5,304 companies have received legitimate business licenses issued by the SERC, with a gross installed power-generating capacity of 889 million kW.
- The SERC has urged power companies that are unqualified for the business license, mainly captive power plants and small hydropower stations, to address problems related to environmental protection, financing and license application materials.
