Tencent Holdings Ltd, China's largest Internet company by revenue, held shares of Caixin Media Company Ltd, a Beijing-based media group providing business and financial news, during Caixin's new round of financing, said Caixin's official micro blog on Thursday.
Tencent will not involve in Caixin's operation to guarantee the media group's independence and professionalism. Tencent planned to buy 19.77 percent share of Caixin, which was seen as a signal that Tencent started seeking newspaper market.
Caixin Media runs four magazines and provides online news service.
