SHANGHAI - The number of people employed in e-commerce in China will reach 2.65 million in 2012, a major tech and internet information provider predicted Thursday.
The figure represents a 24.3-percent year-on-year increase, according to statistics from Analysis International.
The booming e-commerce sector has become a major driver of the economy by bringing commercial value, as well as reforming the structure of the supply and industrial chain, said Chen Shousong, of the data firm.
E-commerce has also created other new working positions such as in call centers, customer service and logistics.
China has seen its trading volume of online shopping in 2011 reach 806 billion yuan ($128.15 billion), a 55 percent year-on-year increase.
