Mi Yue, executive vice chairman of the Shanghai New Energy Industry Association (SNEIA), said the exhibition has become an important platform for trade and communication between photovoltaic manufacturers.
"Although some people are concerned about the problem of over-capacity of production, I remain optimistic about this industry, as it's a must to use more environmental friendly technologies in the future," she said.
Last month, the United States Commerce Department announced a preliminary decision to impose duties on solar cells and panels imported from China, a move supported by US solar companies, which have accused China of subsidizing production.
In the face of rising trade friction with the US and the EU, Chinese solar energy companies are exploring new markets, especially the domestic market.
