CHICAGO -- Kia Motors Corp is recalling more than 145,000 vehicles in the US due to faulty airbags, according to a report Friday in Detroit News.

The recall affected 95,569 2006-2008 Optima cars and 50,186 2007-2008 Rondo crossovers, the automaker said.

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's website reported Kia as saying the clock spring contact assembly on the driver's airbag supplemental restraint system might deteriorate over time, which could cause the air bag to fail to deploy in a crash.

The airbag warning lamp on the instrument panel would light up to indicate the damage, Kia said.

There have been no reports of injuries related to the flaw so far, according to the car maker.

Kia dealers have been given notice of the recall and owners of faulty cars will be notified in March. All the vehicles that have the airbag warning light on will be fixed first.
