Chongqing annual laptop capacity tops 120m

China's southwestern Chongqing accomplished an international-level laptop production base Wednesday after bringing in Asus plants, China Business News reported Thursday.

According to Mayor Huang Qifan, Asustek Computer Inc Chairman and CEO Jonney Shih said the production capacity will be at least 30 million a year. Chongqing will embrace a total capacity of 120 million laptops, including 40 million by Hewlett Packard Company and another 40 million by Acer Inc.

This year, Chongqing will produce 30 million laptops, of which a majority will be delivered abroad. The information technology sector will take in 300 billion yuan ($46 billion), up from 136 billion yuan last year, according to the report.

Next year, Chongqing's laptop output may hit 100 million, and it may forge a cluster of production plants that could earn 700 billion yuan in revenue.
