BEIJING - Honda Motor Co Ltd said on Wednesday that its March sales in China fell from a year earlier for a second straight month as the world's top auto market lost steam after years of rampant expansion.

The No 2 Japanese carmaker said in a statement that it sold 58,611 cars in China last month, down 5.3 percent from a year earlier. That followed a 6.5 percent year-on-year fall in February.

General Motors Co, the largest overseas automaker in China, reported a 1.3 percent gain in March sales after a 5.8 percent fall in February.

Toyota Motor Corp reported a strong rebound in China sales in March, up 37.4 percent and rising sharply from 2.8 growth in February.
