Salt supply will meet growing demand

Workers transport salt at Yinchuan Salt Co in Ningxia Hui autonomous region March 17, 2011.

China National Salt Industry Corp released a statement on March 17 saying that the current salt reserves are sufficient for people's demand. The company also ordered local branches to ensure supply. Worried shoppers stripped stores of salt in Beijing, Shanghai and other parts of China in the false belief that it can guard against radiation exposure, even though any fallout from a crippled Japanese nuclear power plant is unlikely to reach the country.
