Macao's electricity consumption up 5.5% in 2010

MACAO - Macao's electricity consumption reached 3.655 billion kWh in 2010, an increase of 5.5 percent over the previous year, according to figures released on Tuesday by the city's Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).

Of the electricity consumption in 2010, that by households increased by 2.1 percent year-on-year to 697 million kWh, and that by the business sector increased by seven percent to 2.792 billion kWh, the figures indicated.

Local generation of electricity reached 1.077 billion kWh in the period, down by 26.5 percent year-on-year, while imports of electricity increased by 25.1 percent to 2.786 billion kWh.

Imports of natural gas for electricity generation reached 155 million cubic meters in 2010, jumping 65.5 percent from the previous year, according to the DSEC.
