Shanghai Award highlighted at the 13th World Urban Forum in Azerbaijan
The Global Award for Sustainable Development in Cities, or Shanghai Award, is being showcased at the 13th World Urban Forum held in Baku, Azerbaijan, through a series of events and exhibitions, highlighting global achievements, innovative practices, and collaborative visions for sustainable urban development.
Under the theme of "Housing the world: Safe and resilient cities and communities", the forum is held in Baku from Sunday through Friday.
Established by UN-Habitat and China in 2022, the Shanghai Award is an international award recognizing cities that have demonstrated outstanding progress in sustainability. The award aims to strengthen exchanges, knowledge-sharing, and multilateral cooperation among cities while encouraging concrete action toward the Sustainable Development Goals and implementation of the New Urban Agenda.
Representatives from previous Shanghai Award-winning cities, including Bogota, Colombia; Agadir, Morocco; and Incheon, South Korea, will share practices and practical experiences in advancing sustainable urban development. By fostering exchanges, partnerships, and collaborations, such events aim to help turn the shared vision of sustainable development into tangible outcomes.
Through thematic dialogues, case sharing, and exhibitions, the Shanghai Award will also demonstrate China's practical explorations and international cooperation in sustainable urban development, while expanding its global visibility and participation.
