Vice-premier stresses basic research during inspections
Vice-Premier Ding Xuexiang has called for efforts to comprehensively enhance basic research and original innovation capabilities during recent related field trips in Fujian province, Shanghai and Beijing.
During his visits to the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Huairou Laboratory, Ding learned about the progress in original innovation and breakthroughs in core technologies. He also inspected the High Energy Photon Source facility, a major example of cutting-edge science and technology.
While visiting Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Ding stressed the need to promote integrated development of education, sci-tech and talent. He called for efforts to bolster basic disciplines, independently cultivate top-notch innovative talent and support young scientists in playing leading roles.
During inspections at Contemporary Amperex Technology, a global leader in zero-carbon new energy technology, and Huawei's Lianqiu Lake R&D Center, Ding recognized the results achieved by leading tech companies in basic research. He urged such enterprises to advance basic research, application development and commercialization of outcomes in an integrated manner.
