Illegal transport tragedy: eight suffocate in refrigerated truck

Eight people suffocated while being transported in a refrigerated truck, according to a report on Sunday night from a joint investigation team in Yexian county, Henan province.
According to the notice, the driver of a light refrigerated truck was illegally transporting passengers when they stopped at a gas station near Yexian county, Pingdingshan city, at 10 pm on Saturday. While there, the driver found the passengers in a state of suffocation.
The driver immediately dialed 120 for emergency assistance; however, as of 3 am Sunday, all eight passengers were confirmed dead. The driver and other responsible parties have been apprehended, the report said.
Further investigations are underway.
