A man was rescued after driving his car into a pond on New Year's Eve due to a malfunctioning GPS, Wuhan Evening News reported.

The man, surnamed Zhang, was driving his white SUV from Hanyang district to Huangpi district in Wuhan, the capital of Hubei province, to meet a friend. Unsure of which way to go, he turned on his car GPS but was incorrectly guided to a bridge construction site.

Zhang tried to swerve the moment he realized he was unable to pass along the road, but his car plunged into a pond. Zhang then climbed onto the top of the car through the sunroof, and called the police.

By the time Huangpi police arrived, two-thirds of Zhang's car was submerged in the center of the pond, and Zhang was sitting on top of the SUV, shivering in wet pants.

A tow truck helped to pull the submerged vehicle from the pond, and Zhang was rescued unharmed.
