Most of Jingshan Park open, while restoration continues

A total of 85 percent of Jingshan Park is open to the public after restoration of a major historic building was completed at the end of November.

Restoration work on other buildings will continue, as part of Beijing's efforts to get its Central Axis listed in the World Cultural Heritage List, according to Jingshan Park on Sunday.

Jingshan Park is a major component of Beijing's central axis ancient buildings. Its completion will further reflect the arrangement sequence of the axis, Cong Yipeng, chief of the park, told Beijing News on Sunday.

Shouhuang Palace at the park, the second largest building complex on the capital's central axis after the Forbidden City, was officially opened on Nov 22, according to the park.

At present, the closed areas in Jingshan park are Xingqing Pavilion and Guande Palace, which are still under renovation.

In July, 14 historic places along the axis, including Qianmen Gate, the Forbidden City, Jingshan Park, the Drum and Bell towers, and Chairman Mao Zedong Memorial Hall, had been identified as the key heritage sites and planned to apply for World Heritage status in 2035.
