Turkey's provincial police chief shot dead by policeman

ANKARA - A provincial police chief was shot dead and three policemen were wounded on Tuesday in Turkish northeastern city of Rize, according to state-run Anadolu Agency.

Rize Governor Kemal Ceber told reporter that the provincial police chief Altug Verdi lost his life after being taken to hospital in serious condition.

The attack was reportedly conducted by a police officer inside the building of local police department. The suspected police officer has been arrested with wound.

Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu confirmed the accident to reporters, adding that more details of the incident would be provided once they become clear.

Police team has taken special operations in the building and surrounding area.
