Badminton challenge kicks off to combine Mazu culture

China's Olympic badminton player Lin Dan reacts during an exhibition game against national teammate Chen Long as part of the opening ceremony of the the second "Mazu Cup" Maritime Silk Road International Badminton Challenge in Putian of Southeast China's Fujian province on Thursday. More than 1,500 amateur players from 22 countries and regions along the maritime route participated competition while world's top 10 professional players were invited to stage a show game and pair with amateur players. Putian is the birthplace of Mazu, sea goddess and deified form of the historical Lin Mo, a shaman who lived in the tenth century on Meizhou Island off the Putian coast.
