A total of 100,000 fries of Plectropomus leopardus were shipped from Qinglan Port in Hainan province to Palawan and Davao of the Philippines on Wednesday as symbols of friendship.

This is the second batch of fish fries presented to the Philippines to support development of its aquaculture.

In mid-December, 2017, China donated the first batch of 100,000 plectropomus leopardus fries, or the spotfish or starfish as some people call it, following the signing of a memorandum of understanding by agricultural authorities of the two countries.

According to the memorandum, China will provide 100,000 high-quality fish fries annually to aquaculture farmers in Palawan and Davao, the Philippines, from 2017 to 2019.

Since 2016, the two countries have carried out a series of cooperation in the field of the fishery industry, established a bilateral consultation mechanism and have made progress in many aspects, said Liu Xinzhong, an official with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.

The first batch of the deep sea fish fries is at the maturing period and some are entering the market and being sold at good prices. They will help increase the income of the local fishermen, said an official with the Palawan provincial government.

Another 10,000 fresh water fish fries will be airlifted from Guangzhou to Manila in the near future, according to officials with the ministry.
