To jointly build a safe, convenient, high quality and efficient customs clearance environment for the newly opened Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, the General Administration of Customs, Hong Kong Customs and Exercise Department and Macao Customs Service have recently signed a Customs Memorandum of Cooperation.

According to the Memorandum, a liaison mechanism is to be established among the three ports of the bridge linking Hong Kong, Zhuhai and Macao for cooperation in the event of an emergency, exchanges of information and jointly cracking down on smuggling.

This mechanism is expected to guarantee a safe and smooth customs clearance environment for the bridge.

The memorandum, which is based on the actual transit situation of vehicles, personnel and goods after the bridge opened, means there will be trilateral cooperation. The memorandum is in accordance with the existing legal framework of the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and Macao Special Administrative Region.

It aims to better meet the actual demand of the interactive development of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and further improve the ports' facilitation level.
