Some 17 people were injured when part of the second floor of a hospital in Nanjing, East China's Jiangsu province, collapsed at noon on Wednesday.

The four-story building at Zhongshan Hospital, was under renovation when the incident occurred. The government of Lishui district, where the hospital is located, said in its official Weibo social media account that a wooden structural component fell off the wing and led to the collapse.

Twelve people suffered bone fractures and five had skin and soft tissue injuries, it said, adding that the hospital has been shut down for further investigation.

The hospital is a private hospital that has been in operation for about 20 years. The hospital said that all the injured have been transferred to neighboring hospitals.
