LONDON -- British police had put six men in custody as officers searched a property after a cardboard model of Grenfell Tower was burned on a bonfire, Scotland Yard said Tuesday.

The detainment happened after an "offensive" video clip showing a model of the 24-storey block, where the deadly blaze killed 72 last year, being burned.

The video shared on social media showed a laughing crowd set fire to the cardboard model as onlookers shouted "Help me! Help me!".

The six men, aged between 19 and 55, were detained on suspicion of a public order offence after turning themselves in.

Local media said they were arrested under the section of the Public Order Act 1986, which covers intentional "harassment, alarm or distress" caused via the use of "threatening, abusive or insulting" words or signs.

Police searched a house in south London in connection to the crime.

British Prime Minister Theresa May has called the video "utterly unacceptable."

A victim of the deadly fire has criticized the video "cold-blooded."
