China will become the world's largest theme park market by 2020, according to the 2017 AECOM and TEA theme and museum index report.

Thanks to Shanghai Disney's success in the Chinese market and the growth of Chinese customers' demands for entertainment venues, developers are paying attention to the resort market. In the future, more theme parks will be built in China.

The Chinese government will regulate the new projects, and aim to prevent the parks from becoming real estate projects, the report said.

The report pointed out "as markets expand and improve, guests have more options. Asian water park patrons are learning to appreciate better quality experiences and they will travel farther to have them."
