SHANGHAI - Shanghai residents have higher access to museums, with one museum for every 190,000 people in the city, according to a report on local museums.

The rate is higher than the national average, which stands at one museum for every 400,000 people.

Shanghai currently has 126 museums, memorial halls and galleries, according to the 2017 annual report on Shanghai's museums, released by the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture, Radio, Film and TV.

More museums are being planned and the municipal government has set a target of one museum for every 160,000 people in the next three years.

Shanghai's museums received more than 22 million visitors in 2017.
