Police in Linyi county of Shanxi province said on Tuesday they broke up a suspected criminal gang headed by a senior official at the local court, thepaper.cn reported Friday.

Hao Wanji, vice-president of the People's Court of Linyi County, was said to head the gang, according to a notice released Wednesday by the Linyi Public Security Bureau through its official Weibo account.

In the notice, police encouraged the public to provide clues and evidence concerning the gang's criminal activities, and asked members of the gang to surrender themselves to the police within 15 days.

In a separate notice released on the same day, police also listed four wanted suspects, all from Linyi.

Thepaper.cn reported that Hao Wanji had been in charge of the court's execution department for years before being promoted to become the court's vice-president in 2014.

Wang Kan contributed to this story.
