New think tank for construction sector established
An institute focused on the innovation and development of China’s construction industry was established on Friday at Tongji University, and it is expected to become one of the top think tanks for the sector.
The Center of Innovation and Development in Construction, which was created following calls by the central government to achieve sustainable development in this industry, will be responsible for driving change in management, methodology and solutions related to the sector.
“China’s construction sector has limited adaption of innovation and modern technology,” said Wu Zhiqiang, vice president of Tongji University. “It is time for industrial experts from universities and corporations to take a more proactive role in the transformation of the industry."
“Shanghai’s construction sector is in need of research support during this reform and transition process, and the institute will be of support to industrial innovation and transformation efforts,” said Pei Xiao, deputy director of the Shanghai Housing and Urban-Rural Construction and Management Committee.
