BEIJING - China's press and publications regulator circulated a notice on Wednesday to regulate the live-streaming trivia quiz shows that have taken China by storm since the beginning of the year.

The State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television (SAPPRFT) said in the notice that quiz shows cannot spread content that is against Chinese laws and regulation, nor may they spread vulgar information.

The live-streaming platforms cannot promote "mammonism, extravagance, or sensationalism," nor may they feature excessive marketing during shows, said the SAPPRFT.

To host a live-streamed quiz show, both the platform and its anchors must have relevant qualifications that are recognized by the authority, according to the notice.

SAPPRFT called on the quiz shows to spread healthy and beneficial knowledge to the public.
