The National Tourism Administration donated tourism-related books to the Liangshan Yi autonomous prefecture, Sichuan province, on Thursday as part of poverty relief efforts to help the prefecture through tourism development.

Li Shihong, deputy chief of the administration, and Hong Tianyun, deputy chief of the State Council Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development, attended the event.

Li said that less developed areas like Liangshan would bid farewell to poverty and become rich through development of rural tourism at a time when the tourism market is experiencing robust growth.

Boasting the largest Yi population in China, Liangshan is one of the least developed areas in Sichuan.

The State Council Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development and the National Tourism Administration recently issued a joint action plan for poverty relief efforts for less developed areas.

They pledge to support the improvement of infrastructure and training of personnel to lift less developed areas out of poverty through tourism development.
