Happy Chinese New Year – Shanghai Week opened on the evening of Jan 9 at the Consulate General of China in New York, where posters proclaiming, "Happy Chinese New Year", were put up and red lanterns hung high.

Over 300 people, including representatives from both countries, attended the opening ceremony.

Zhang Qiyue, Chinese consul general in New York, extended New Year greetings to all guests. Zhang said that the event would fully showcase the economic and social development and the cultural and artistic achievements of Shanghai, China's most modern city. That would allow American people to experience the inclusiveness and cultural confidence of Shanghai in a new era.
